MACC Meets Significant Milestone for
Largest Customer FairPoint Executive Pays Visit to MACC
Associates
(BLAIR, NE - October 2, 2006) - Mid America
Computer Corporation (MACC) recently reached a key milestone as it
completed the first phase of a conversion project in which it moved
approximately 199,000 access line equivalents, owned by FairPoint
Communications, Inc. onto its billing system. Access line equivalents
consist of voice access lines and DSL, cable modem, and wireless
broadband subscribers.
MACC’s associates received accolades in person for the achievement when
Peter Nixon, Chief Operating Officer of FairPoint Communications, Inc.
visited Blair. He came to thank MACC’s associates for their efforts in
the wake of last November’s announcement that MACC would be the new
billing vendor for all of FairPoint’s companies, which, as of June 30,
2006, had a total of 292,910 access line equivalents.
FairPoint owns and operates 29 rural local exchange companies (RLECs)
located in 18 states offering an array of services, including local and
long distance voice, data, Internet, and broadband offerings. As
FairPoint’s vendor, MACC provides customer management software. MACC
also provides the services of usage and statement processing along with
printing, inserting, and distributing monthly bills for FairPoint’s
customers.
So far, MACC has converted 19 of FairPoint’s companies to its billing
system. During a speech to MACC’s associates, Nixon, who has 28 years of
telecom industry experience, said the positive manner of the conversion
to MACC was something that he has not seen before during a change to a
new billing system.
“Our relationship with MACC has been a true partnership,” Nixon said.
“The conversion is ahead of schedule and under budget.”
Rod Christenson, MACC’s President, said the remaining FairPoint
companies are expected to convert to the MACC system by early 2007. To
accomplish the successful conversion, he said MACC’s associates have
worked extra hours, in addition to hiring more than 30 new associates to
meet the increased workload, and it created a new division within its
organization to work directly with FairPoint. The company also installed
a new mainframe computer, an additional high-speed printer and a new
bill inserter to handle the added processing requirements.
